The Register of Land-based Operations (ROLO) allows employers to prove that they are exercising their duty of care to employees and others by demonstrating that all their workers in the land-based sector have achieved a recognised level of competence.

BALI’s ROLO Operatives Course is one of the leading Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness Courses in the UK, designed for the those working in the Land-based industries. It is a prerequisite for anyone applying for a LISS/CSCS SmartCard at the ‘operatives’ or AQP level.   LISS/CSCS is both a standalone scheme and a mandatory requirement of the National Highways Sector Scheme 18 (Land-based), which is recognised by BuildUK. One of the requirements for the scheme is the successful completion of the ROLO Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness Course.

BALI’s ROLO Supervisor and Manager Courses have been developed by the British Association of Landscape Industries and offer an alternative route in achieving the Land-based industry skills scheme (LISS) and/or the Construction skills certification scheme (CSCS).  Both these courses have been approved fully by the CSCS and Build UK as being equivalent to the CITB SSSTS and SMSTS courses and will provide the only route for practicing Supervisors and Managers in the land-based industry to achieve their LISS/CSCS cards.

Please note that as of 1st April 2022 the correct level of ROLO course will be a requirement for all Supervisor and Manager level cards.

ITS offer the following choices in ROLO training :

• Operative course – 1 day (face-to-face or e-learning)
• Supervisor course – 2 days (plus e-learning element)
• Manager course – 3 days (plus e-learning element)

Once you have completed the correct level of ROLO training (and passed the assessment!), you’ll need to book a CITB ‘Touchscreen Test’. From the 1st April 2022 changes were made by BALI to the LISS/CSCS scheme in regards to the level of ROLO course required for each card, the following now apply for each card.

**Note that the White/Yellow AQP card may not be renewed HOWEVER, that does not prevent suitably qualified current or previous holders of the card from submitting a fresh application for the AQP card.  (This is a change to the previous position, whereby the AQP card could only be held once, requiring candidates who (had) already held the AQP card to apply for a different type of LISS/CSCS card.)
